  • Unpreserved specimens that are >30 minutes old
  • Preserved specimens that exceed stability limits
  • Specimens that do not meet laboratory labeling requirements
  • Specimens collected with expired devices
  • Specimens collected in PVA transport
  • Specimens collected during an endoscopic procedure are not accepted.

Microbiology

Collection Instructions

Patient should pass stool into a clean dry pan or special container (such as a hat) mounted on the toilet  for this purpose.  Care should be taken to not contaminate with urine. 

Transfer representative portion of sample to the SAF container to the red fill line on the side of the vial. 

Remarks

  • Endoscopic and gastric aspirates are not approved specimen types for this test.
  • This test will only detect Cryptosporidum antigens in fecal specimens. This test will not detect any other parasitic agent of infection.
  • If a single specimen is submitted for examination and results are negative, be advised that one negative specimen does not rule out the possibility of infection.
  • When clinically indicated, results should be confirmed by a second method.
