Interpretive Data
- Depending on disease and organism prevelance, testing should not be performed as a screening procedure for the general population. The predictive value of a positive or negative serologic result depends on the pretest likelihood of cryptococcal disease being present. Testing should only be done when clinical evidence suggests the diagnosis of cryptococcal disease.
- The performance of this test has not been established with specific HIV therapies. The patient samples included in the manufacturer's studies were obtained from patients undergoing HIV therapy, but information on the specific therapy type was not available.
Unacceptable Conditions
Reasons for specimen rejection may include but not be limited to:
- Serum specimens may not be hemolyzed
- CSF samples must be collected asceptically
- Specimens must conform to the current laboratory labeling policy
