It is preferable to test samples on the day of their collection. If samples cannot be tested immediately, maintain them at 2-8C and test within 48 hours. Freeze if longer storage is necessary.

Specimen Handling

Allow the blood specimen to clot. Centrifuge. Separate serum.

Reference Interval

Negative (<200 IU/mL)

Unacceptable Conditions

  • Samples that are lipemic or hemolyzed are not acceptable for testing.
  • Samples that are obviously contaminated are not acceptable for testing.
  • Plasma is not acceptable for testing.

Remarks

  • A titer will be reflexed for positive ASO results.
