Interpretive Data
A patient who is Rh negative is a candidate for Rhophylac as long as they have not already developed a true Anti-D from previous pregnancy or transfusion.
A positive antibody screen necessitates antibody identification to establish specificity and clinical significance in relation to Hemolytic Disease of the Fetus and Newborn, HDFN.
Antibodies that cause HDFN require monthly antibody titer to assess the strength of the antibody.
Notes
If the antibody screen is positive, then antibody identification will be performed. If the antibody is capable of causing Hemolytic Disease of the Fetus and Newborn, then a titer will be performed to obtain a baseline titer. The following tests may also be performed: Polyspecific (IgG/C3d) Direct Coomb’s, Monospecific (IgG) Direct Coomb’s, and Antibody Elution. Patient samples requiring further testing will be sent to the American Red Cross.
