Ordering Recommendations
For the detection of Group A Strep in throat swab specimens.
Collection Device
Contact the Laboratory for collection supplies.
Preferred:
Use the swab in the Strep collection kit.
Acceptable:
Foam, polyester, HydraFlock® and nylon flocked throat swabs can be used to collect throat swab samples. BBL™ CultureSwab™ Liquid Amies transport media system (eSwab) is also acceptable.
Collection Instructions
Collect the patient specimen by swabbing the posterior pharynx, tonsils and other inflamed areas. Avoid touching the tongue, cheeks and teeth with the swab.
Place swab in plastic tube provided and send to lab at room temperature ASAP.
