Ordering Recommendations
This test is intended to be used as an aid in the diagnosis of infections caused by Bartonella sp. Serological testing and Blood Culture Isolator recommended.
Collect
Whole Blood-Lavender (EDTA) or tissue (heart valve, liver, lymph node, spleen) in a sterile container or fluid (CSF, Synovial, Ocular)
Stability (from collection to initiation)
Fluids - Refrigerated (preferred) or Frozen
Whole blood - Refrigerated 7 days (preferred) or Ambient 7 days
Paraffin Embedded tissue block - Ambient
Tissue/biopsy - Frozen (preferred) or Refrigerated
Storage/Transport Temperature
Paraffin embedded tissue: Ambient
Fluids and Whole blood: Refrigerated
Tissue/biopsy: Frozen
Minimum Requirements
Fluids and whole blood: 0.5 mL
Tissue: 5 mm
Paraffin Embedded Tissue: 5 mm
